It is described as “the most eagerly awaited autumn event in the Algarve” – and it is now in full celebratory flow.
Continuing until 8 October, the Oktoberfest at Vila Vita Biergarten in Porches has returned with “all the flavour and fervour of the South German-style beer celebration for an authentic experience and amusement”. In short… a touch of Bavaria in the Algarve.
The opening hours are from 5pm every day (apart from Sundays from 1pm), and the festivities include food, live music, “guaranteed fun” and the key ingredient: lots of beer.
Inspired by the typical beer festivals in Munich, but with a distinctive Algarve style, the two week-long event is held in Vila Vita Parc’s recreation of an authentic beer garden, with a menu full of Bavarian delicacies served at the establishment’s long tables.
Weissbier from the Erdinger brewery (a partner in the event) is available in a classic Bavarian interior lined with 120-year-old vintage wood – “like you’re being transported to a rustic chalet in the Alps” – to the sounds of live music from a traditional band that has been entertaining guests at the Biergarten for several years.

In addition to beer, the cuisine on offer includes handmade sausages, schnitzel, pretzels, potato salad, knuckle of pork and apple strudel.
Admission is free, tables can be booked in advance and there is a free outdoor car park, as well as ample public transport options servicing the nearby city of Lagoa for those enjoying a few steins of beer.
