Vilamoura Marina has been recognised by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) in its annual “Gold Anchor” awards. After assessing marinas from around the world, berth holders chose Vilamoura as “best international marina of 2021”.
Sponsored by Towergate Insurance, the awards honour the finest of more than 160 Gold Anchor-accredited marinas, giving boat owners the opportunity “to recognise those marinas that go above and beyond to offer outstanding quality and service to their berth holders and visitors”.
A pioneer nautical facility in Portugal, dating to 1974, Vilamoura is the largest marina in the country, with 825 berths for boats ranging from six to 60 metres.
With an entire working boat yard in operation, the marina offers a wide range of maintenance services including upholstery, awnings, cold technique, hull painting, general ship maintenance, brokerage, gel coating, electricity and housekeeping.
Also on-site is an international professional training centre, while the marina regularly hosts such major events as the Carnival Regatta and International Boat Show.
Welcoming the award, Vilamoura Marina and Vilamoura World manager Isolete Correia said, “The distinction of The Yacht Harbour Association reflects the great quality of the infrastructure that the Vilamoura Marina makes available to those who visit us, not only for the vessels and their occupants, but also for the set of services that are available at maintenance level.
“The Vilamoura Marina also has a sporting vocation as a result of the partnership with Vilamoura Sailing, a training centre which attracts sailors from all over the world and having, in 2021, organised international regattas and qualifications for the Olympic Games.”
