A major new hotel project due to open in the Algarve this spring is offering guests the opportunity of enjoying a combination of chic seaside relaxation and vibrant sophistication. The launch by W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International, marks the brand’s entry into Portugal.

Described as offering a “playful spin on the traditional resort experience”, W Algarve is located 50 kilometres from Faro Airport. According to a press release announcing the pending launch, “W Algarve celebrates urban glamour meets beach life, in a region famous for its beautiful, secluded coves, year-round sunshine and enticing cuisine. W Algarve’s energetic beats, striking flavours and bright design complete the scene in this playful destination that gives sunseekers and tastemakers a new reason to visit the Algarve.”
The hotel resort offers guests a total of 134 guest rooms and suites (plus 83 residences), six bars and dining establishments including Sea Sky and Paper Moon, the AWAY Spa, the poolside WET Deck, and FIT for high-intensity workouts or bootcamps.
“Urban Glamour Meets Beach Life”
According to Marriott International, the guest rooms feature Atlantic colours and asymmetrical forms that mimic the nearby cliffs, with dynamic tile designs created as a contemporary tribute to Portuguese heritage.
“The 10 WOW suites demonstrate next-level luxury, each providing two floors of state-of-the art resort living. Downstairs, the living areas feature ultra-modern BOSE entertainment systems allowing guests to set the scene of their choice. Upstairs, guests can soak up the Algarve sun on the spacious sunny rooftop terrace, with eye-popping coastal views and private plunge pools, available in selected WOW suites.”
The Extreme WOW Suite (the W brand’s “modern interpretation of a traditional presidential suite”) hosts an expansive bedroom inspired by the Benagil cave and picturesque Algarve fishing villages. Guests can climb the stairs to a panoramic rooftop terrace where gardens surround an elevated lounge with DJ booth, dining and bar areas, and infinity plunge pool.
The residences feature one, two, three or four-bedroom apartments, where style and comfort have been combined to mimic the shapes of beach pebbles and local sea caves.
Diverse Culinary Options for Foodies
W Algarve’s SIP poolside bar serves all-day cocktails and a healthy menu that fuses flavours from the Far East to the Mediterranean coast, while the Market Kitchen restaurant offers modern interpretations of international favourites and farm and ocean-fresh regional cuisine.
The elegant Paper Moon – the Mediterranean sister to the original Milanese restaurant – sits atop the hotel, with panoramic views over the grounds and ocean beyond and serving “honest Italian cuisine”, including seasonal fish as well as a selection of fresh pasta and pizza.
The rooftop Sea Sky overlooks the bay of Armação de Pera, and champagne sunset deck AIR offers an array of sparkling wines paying homage to the Tartessian planted vines in the Sado and Tagus valleys.
Relaxing and Revitalising Pampering
The AWAY Spa features six treatment rooms including one couple’s room, a hair salon, a mani and pedi bar, facial LED mask treatments and express booths for “pre-dinner touch ups”. The spa also incorporates a wet area with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, and a covered outdoor relaxation area. The Beauty Bar offers a social space with a variety of express and longer treatments.
High-intensity workouts and bootcamps are provided by FIT – embodying the W brand’s FUEL offering, “a social and energetic take on wellness”. FIT is fully equipped with the latest TechnoGym equipment, alongside an Olympic Power Rack to offer maximum workout capability. Guests can also enjoy sunrise yoga or a dip at the WET Deck, the W brand’s signature take on the poolside scene, “meaning that there is every opportunity to refuel and leave W Algarve with a glow”.
Towards the end of 2021 the Algarve was once again named as the “World’s Leading Beach Destination”, and picked up several other prestigious international awards.
