With tourists eagerly awaiting the start of the peak holiday season, top international airlines operating at Faro Airport have announced a major boost to their respective summer schedules.
At the same time, tourism authorities have noted that Algarve tourist occupancy forecasts for Easter are “very positive”, with a higher number of bookings than at the same time last year.
Tourists visiting the Algarve during this period tend to be predominantly families, but this year golfers are also reportedly taking advantage of an earlier Easter to play at the region’s internationally renowned golf courses. Britons remain the most numerous group of international tourists, followed by the French and Irish, with the number of Americans also “fast growing”.

Volotea
Faro Airport is set to be included on Volotea’s schedule from its new base in Brest, the capital of Brittany in France. The airline, which connects small and mid-sized European cities, will be operating from the base in April with an Airbus A320 aircraft. Two weekly frequencies are planned for Faro, on Thursdays and Sundays, starting on 18 April.
“We are very pleased to strengthen our local presence in Brest through the opening of our ninth base in France and our 20th in Europe since we began operations in 2012,” said Volotea founder and CEO Carlos Muñoz. “This development demonstrates our commitment to the Brittany region, marks a historic milestone for our company in France and is very symbolic as it coincides with the celebration of our 10-year presence in Brest. This opening reflects the very essence of Volotea: improving connectivity, attraction and dynamism of the regions in which we operate, through a positive economic and social impact.”
