Several new international routes are planned for Faro Airport starting in April, as regional authorities launch a new campaign with the motto “It’s easier now, book today”.
The campaign coincides with the UK government’s decision to remove all restrictions on international travel for passengers ahead of the Easter holidays. No-one entering (or returning to) the UK now needs to take tests or complete a passenger locator form, including those who do not qualify as vaccinated; and remaining managed hotel quarantine capacity is due to be fully stood down from the end of March.
The Algarve Tourism Association referred to the UK decision when launching its new campaign, whose aim is to show tourists that visiting the region is now easier, with travel procedures and protocols considerably relaxed after two years of pandemic-related restrictions.
The campaign is focused on the Algarve’s 10 major markets (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom), through videos (English-lange here) that highlight the region’s main attractions. These include excellent weather, a secure environment, stunning landscapes and nature, and a diverse range of outdoor activities (hiking, cycling, golf, etc.).
According to ATA president João Fernandes, from April, Faro Airport will offer six new routes, including Nuremberg in Germany (operated by Corendon), Toronto in Canada (Air Transat) and Prague in the Czech Republic (Eurowings).
In addition, 10 routes to eight countries (Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway and Spain) will be “reinforced”, covering cities including Cologne, Brussels, Madrid, Toulouse and Oslo. Of 53 countries previously linked to the Algarve by air, only two will be missing: Ukraine and Hungary.
EasyJet Flights to Faro from Birmingham and Southend
Last week EasyJet celebrated carrying over three million passengers to and from Birmingham Airport, and to mark the event the low-cost airline announced plans for a new new twice-weekly service to Faro.
Seats are now on sale, and the flights are scheduled to depart on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the summer season – between 1 May and 26 October 2022.
“Over the past months we’ve continued growing our operations at Birmingham,” said EasyJet UK country manager Ali Gayward, “serving more customers, and offering more connections to a greater range of destinations to ever before – which is especially exciting as we know that so many people have missed being able to holiday over the last two years. With low fares… and many destinations no longer requiring testing restrictions, now is a great time to book with EasyJet.”
Added Birmingham Airport aviation director Tom Screen, “Our partnership with the airline has grown over the years and it is great that today we see the airline carry its three millionth passenger and additionally welcome the announcement of a new route to Faro. This popular Portuguese destination is a firm favourite for customers flying from Birmingham Airport and we welcome the extra capacity on this route.”
EasyJet customers will also be able to fly to Faro from Southend this spring-summer. According to an official announcement by Southend Airport, the service is due to start from 2 May, with flights running twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.
